Class Descriptions

Class etiquette is very important at 4.1.3. Please arrive a minimum of 5 minutes early to class and be dressed in the proper attire. 

Private Lessons

Private lessons are a great way to refine or enhance your technique in a one-on-one environment. Class is tailored to your student's specific needs. Privates can be scheduled with any of our professional staff members.

Ballet*
Ballet classes are offered from a beginner level to advanced. Students are taught proper body placement, body alignment, barre work and center floor work, adagio, and across the floor combinations. Beginner classes introduce vocabulary, proper alignment, and classical ballet technique. Advanced classes include adagio and allegro work, and combinations using balance, strength, and style. In addition Pointe is offered. Pointe class must by recommended by a 413 Instructor.

All students are urged to study ballet, as it is the foundation of all other dance styles and facilitates further success in these disciplines.

Tap
Tap is a style involving rhythm, dynamics, and varying sounds.

Tappers will have a graduated warm-up to loosen their ankles and knees for proper execution of skills, across the floor progressions and have center floor work to learn and perfect new skills.

Jazz*
Jazz classes are fun and energetic.

They include such elements as kicks, leaps, jumps, turns, splits, and isolations. Classes include stretch and strengthening exercises, floor work, and across the floor progressions in addition to a center floor combinations.

Hiphop
Hiphop classes combine street dance with funk and jazz, similar to what you would see in televised dance performances or music videos. Students will learn the importance of isolations and dynamics to execute pop-and-lock and funk movements while combining strength work.

Turns & Leaps*

Turns and leaps classes will be focusing on the technique needed to perfect their turn, leap and jump technique. Dancers will use conditioning, flexibility, and ballet and jazz technique to help them to push them to a new level. Each student will also need a pair of ankle weights. Beginners no more than 1lb, intermediate and advanced 1.5-2lbs.

Combo (levels 2-5)

This combo class will combine lyrical, contemporary, and improv into one class. Classes will focus on the expressive style of dance that combines elements of jazz, modern, and classical ballet to create and develop innovative as well as classic lines and shapes. Dancers will learn to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements. Improv is expressive and a way for dancers to learn to free themselves through the art of dance. Dancers must also be enrolled in a technique class to take this class. 

Acro*
Acro teaches strength, flexibility, and body contortion. Skills include but are not limited to walkovers, limbers, handsprings, chest rolls, cartwheels/round offs, handstands, aerials and more. This is not a tumbling class.

Musical Theatre

This class will introduce you to the dynamic world of musical theatre through developing  your singing, acting and dancing as well as utilize class exercises for the body and the voice with an overall emphasis on performance.

Dance Team Prep

This class focuses on skills and techniques needed to make your school's dance team. Explore pom, jazz, hiphop and kick techniques while building strength, stamina & endurance. 

Adult Classes
Our adult classes will have a specific style for two weeks before changing to a new style. Not interested in the style coming up? That’s okay! Catch us for the next one. These classes are for all ability levels. You can choose to pay per class or pay per 2 week session for style of dance.

4/5 Year Old Combo

This hour long class is designed for 4-5 year old dancers to continue learning the basics of dance while experiencing different styles of dance. They will learn about ballet, tap, and jazz. 

Toddler Class

This class is specifically designed for 2-3 year old dancers. They will participate in a 45 minute class in which they will experience and learn about beginning techniques of ballet, and jazz.

Class Levels

  • Toddler Dance: Ages 2-3 years

    • Toddler classes​ are for our newest dancers! We will be giving them a taste of multiple dance styles while teaching them the most basic principles of dance.

  • 4-5 Year Old Combo

    • 4 and 5 year olds will learn the basics of ballet, tap, and jazz while preparing them for Level 1 classes. ​

  • Level 1: Ages 6+

    • Level 1 is for beginning dancers to learn proper technique and build a solid dance foundation ​

  • Level 2: Ages 8+

    • Level 2 is for dancers who are comfortable with beginning technique and ready to take their dancing to a new height. More technique will be added, as well as more challenging routines.​

  • Level 3: 12+

    • Level 3 dancers have mastered basic skills and basic techniques and are now ready to conquer more challenging leaps, turns, and combinations. ​

  • Level 4:

    • Level 4 dancers have great foundational​ technique. They will be learning to expand upon their technique and their range of dancing to take them to their highest level as well as being challenged to push past standard limits.

  • Pointe: 

    • Pointe classes will only be offered to those who have proven ready. Strong ballet technique, and strong ankles are a necessity in order to begin pointe classes. Injury prevention is vital to young dancers, and starting one too soon on pointe is hazardous to their well-being.​ Our pointe dancers must be in a Level 4 ballet class to be eligible for pointe. Please review this document if you feel you are ready for pointe.

Levels will be evaluated by class instructors. 4.1.3. is dedicated to training your dancer in the safest and most effective manner. Your dancer risks injury if they are placed in a level that is too advanced for them. Please understand that levels are assigned in your dancer's best interest.
